White Pine Stables Therapeutic Riding Center (TRC) is located on 15 acres just north of Columbus, OH, and provides equine- assisted activities to all age groups with a variety needs. Founded in 2007, White Pine Stables TRC is an established nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to serving people with disabilities. White Pine Stables TRC follows the most stringent safety standards in the industry, established by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, or PATH Intl. (Formerly North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, or NARHA).
By forming a special relationship with horses, students with cognitive, social, physical, and emotional disabilities are able to achieve impressive gains in these areas. Physical benefits include improved balance and mobility, increased muscle tone and coordination, as well as postural improvements. Students also gain greater self-confidence and independence while learning skills in horsemanship and horse care.
The unique barn environment provides a great motivator for students to reach goals and learn important life skills such as responsibility and respect. Each student is evaluated and provided a goal-oriented program tailored to their specific needs.
In 2008, White Pine Stables TRC served 30 weekly students with a staff of 40 volunteers. Currently, White Pine Stables TRC is serving 50 weekly students with 50 active volunteers and a growing herd of therapy horses. The program is growing at a rapid pace, and the expanding waiting list for new students makes the need for funding and volunteers urgent.
